General
Canon Source: Tegami Bachi aka Letter Bee
Canon Format: Manga
Character's Name: Lag Seeing
Character's Age: 12
Conditional: If your character is 13 years of age or under, please clarify how they will be played.
Lag may be 12, but in his world he is called a man already. He is a Letter Bee, charged with the responsibility of delivering letters. The routes are dangerous because the Heart of the Letter attracts Gaichuu—creatures without Hearts. All Letter Bees must able to defend and make the delivery. Lag has long ago understood this responsibility and is one of the best after a very short time. He’s used to coming through difficult tasks with his own resourcefulness. And, in him, there is a undying hope and deep empathy within him that he carries. I don’t think the feeling of being “alone” has crossed his mind much, because there a people depending on him, and people he depends on. His willingness to reach out, unafraid of people’s opinions, is what makes him Lag.
What form will your character's NV take? He will be using this: http://t1.ftcdn.net/jpg/00/35/27/02/400_F_35270203_djugnAv9Kr0l7LHNYobUGvx06lZwDkvh.jpg (with voice/video/writing functions) with this: http://www.instructables.com/image/FVQU2EWFDTDOB9N/Steampunk-Finger-Stylus.jpg in order to write because he doesn’t type. It’s about the size of a Kindle and comes in blue.
Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: In Tegami Bachi, the important weapon that a Letter Bee uses is his or her “heart.” To use the power, it is combined with Spirit Amber—amber that contains spirit insects within them. Such insects had a spiritual energy that would resonate with the user’s heart, and then the result would be either an attack or a restoration, or…something else. The Spirit Amber must be used with a weapon (known as shindan) in order to harness the power of Heart into a “physical” form. The weapons themselves come in difference forms, ranging from guns to musical instruments.
When I say the result is different, I mean it depends on the situation. For example, a person’s heart would be able the gaichuu (extremely large insects which are attracted to the “Heart,” found in people as well as in their letters; they have no heart inside of them, hence the attraction) if the power is directed at the weak points. However, if a person were to shoot a letter, it would reveal the “heart” inside that came from the person who wrote the letter. Another different case would be is a person shot another person with a shindan—they wouldn’t kill the person, but instead would injure (severity varies) and reveal the shooter’s Heart.
…it’s a bit of a confusing concept. In Lag’s case, his Heart is activated by the Spirit Amber that replaced his left eye since his birth. The Spirit Amber in turn resonates in a gun (loaded with empty bullet case), and he is able to shoot out his power that he calls Akabari (Red Needle). Assumedly, he can use different guns, but his current one is Gauche’s old gun, Nocturne No. 20. The gun itself is a powerful one and more often than not, Lag uses up too much Heart whenever he fires it. Heart Bullets are unique; for Lag, his Heart Bullet allows him to “see” the Heart in objects, be it a letter or something else.
What he sees in the heart of a person/letter
The answer to that would be anything. It depends on the person or letter, and the situation. However, it always reveals memories of a person. Whatever he shoots does not predict the future. The memories usually are important to whatever situation Lag is in, be it that it helps another person or helps him. The ability ties in to Lag's own personality. He has a great deal of care for any person he meets, and is easily moved to tears. The ability he has allows him to "see" more fully into someone else's dilemma, or in other cases it present his emotions more strongly to another person.
Limitations/drawbacks
There are limitations in that it doesn't always work the way he wants it too. Lag can't control very well the amount Heart he shoots out; it may have to do with the gun he uses, or simply how emotional he can be. Either way, he often uses it too much and too many times, leaving him drained. This has happened more than once; the last time he wore his body down so much he was sick.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? N/A
Weapons: Nocturne No. 20
History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History:
There was a white-haired boy, chained to a post that marked a burned town. He was the letter to be sent, marked as Lag Seeing, seven years old, male, and fragile. That was his first appearance in Tegami Bachi.
Lag Seeing was born to Ann Seeing on the day the man-made sun flickered. Because of an illness he lost his left eye, but his mother replaced it with a red Spirit Amber stone, which saved his life. Nothing is known of his father, but he and his mother led a peaceful life, working. It was all destroyed when Lag was seven. Men from the capital (the city closest to the artificial sun) burned the town and took people captive, Lag’s mother included. He was left, to be delivered to Cambel Litus to his aunt. It was Gauche Suede who came upon him. Their first meeting was rather…abrupt. Lag wakes up and thinks that Gauche was with the men who took his mother away, but Gauche, albeit hurriedly, explains that he is a Letter Bee—employed by the Bee Hive in Yuusari. Lag was the letter he was supposed to carry and deliver. He also introduces his dingo, Roda. However, Gauche also says that he isn’t interested in the contents of the letter, but that simply delivering it was his duty. It doesn’t sit well with Lag, but where could he go? His mother is gone, his aunt the last of his family.
Their journey is a relatively peaceful one, if not a bit stilted. Lag is still wary of Gauche, and Gauche is…just Gauche, focused on getting his job done. They aren’t hostile, but neither are they friendly. The first time a gaichuu appears, Gauche defeats it by shooting with his gun. He explains how shindanjuu and spirit ember work, letting Lag hold his gun. However, something strange happens. As Lag holds the gun, wishing he had this sort of weapon, the spirit amber in the gun glows, because it is resonating with something. This causes the gun to shoot out an immense amount of Heart. A bit of it accidentally strikes Gauche in the cheek, causing him to see some of Lag’s memories. Gauche then shoots a restorative bullet into Lag, though he hardly registers this as he briefly awakens and then falls asleep again. There is little time for Guach to puzzle over how Lag was able to shoot, though—gaichuu are attracted to all the released heart, and Gauche has left with the “overtime.” Lag wakes up to memories that aren’t his own, but he sees Gauche sleeping, the ground littered with pieces of gaichuu.
The next day Lag peppers Gauche with questions about his memories, about Head Bees, his sister Sylvette, and Aria Link (and just boys usually are, he snickers when he brings up females). The wall between them seems to have broken down…until they almost reach Cambel. Gauche asks Lag to please try to write a letter someday, but this causes Lag to lash out, saying if he writes a letter to his mother, how would it reach her? Where would he know how to send it? He demands that Gauche bring to the capital with him, but Gauche refuses, saying his pass is only for him and his dingo. “Your circumstances have nothing to do with me. I can’t act as a close friend.” Lag asks if this means they can never be friends, and Gauche replies that Lag is just a letter he is deliver. Lag then angrily shouts that he hates Gauche, and all Letter Bees. Well, this was fine with Gauche, who is rather used to this. However, he doesn’t expect Lag to wake up before he does, taking his gun, and leave.
Lag is fuming as he walks, Roda following him. He rants about how he should’ve never trusted Gauche…and then he stops, unsure of his way. A gaichuu choose that moment to attack; Lag falls into a deep pit, but he manages to cling to the side, too terrified to think. The gaichuu strikes, but Gauche is there, blocking it. He tells Lag to aim for him, while he shoots. His first shot doesn’t do it, and he tells Lag they have to get closer. Only then does he see the Spirit Amber in Lag’s eye, glowing bright red. Even though the gaichuu knocks them apart, Lag still holds the power, and with Gauche encouraging him, shoots.
The rest of the journey is spent with Lag carrying Gauche to Cambel, arriving at his aunt’s doorstep. Though…when Gauche wakes up, the two of them don’t quite get to talk. Gauche is again all-business, and Lag’s aunt kicks him out. The rest of the town is unfriendly, and Gauche is ready to leave but Lag comes to find him. Gauche thanks him and says he knows that Lag’s aunt will look after his friend.
“…friend?” Lag is almost disbelieving. Then comes the moment that Gauche becomes the most important person to Lag—he hugs him and tells him that the delivery’s complete, that they had helped each other, and that Lag was now a man. Right as Gauche leaves and the gate is closing, Lag shouts out that he’s going to be a Letter Bee like Gauche.
Fast forward five years—Lag is now twelve and he has passed part of the examination. For the next part he must go to Yuusari in order to complete it; Conner arrives to pick him up and he bids Cambel a goodbye and sets off.
They stop at Yodaka to take the weekly government train to Yuusari, but Lag gets distracted by a girl he sees hiding in a niche. The girl has striking features: gold hair and sea-blue eyes. Conner says that she is a letter that couldn’t be delivered because there wasn’t enough postage paid. Lag looks at the address and notes that “Rabusamu Wandaun” is in Rent but isn’t too far away and that he’s willing to deliver her. They set off, and along the way Lag ends up naming her “Niche” and giving her underpants to wear. He completes the delivery, only to find out that he has delivered Niche to a circus and that Niche is the “child of Maka” (Her hair is her power—they are sharper than anything and she can form them into different shapes). When he runs back he finds the circus tents collapsing, Niche bursting from them. She runs off into the Broccoli Forest which is gaichuu territory, Lag on her heels. A gaichuu (Four Roses) attacks them. At first Lag isn’t able to shoot, but after the gaichuu knocks them both down, Niche says she’s happy to see Lag again, and he is then able to use the amber in his eye to shoot a bullet. With the gaichuu destroyed, Niche asks if “goodbyes” make Lag sad. If they do, then she’ll stay with him forever. Niche then proclaims herself at Lag’s dingo (because he is lacking one) and the two began heading to Yuusari on foot…well, actually three. Niche picked up a strange animal at the circus and named it “Steak,” saying he would taste awful if not cooked.
They are on the second-to-last leg of their journey; one more town before they reach the bridge that leads to Yuusari. The town is called Kyrie, and seeing how they’re close, Lag decides to stay for a night. Someone else, however, also wants to cross the bridge—Neri, who cannot cross. There, he finds out that his ability can sense the “Heart” in objects. He helps Neri, because since the death of her brother, she was embittered towards Jiggy Pepper (a famous Letter Bee). Lag helped her realise that Letter Bees aren’t cruel. For the sake of her happiness, he helps her. Afterwards, he continues his journey on the bridge called Bifrost.
The crossing…isn’t the cleanest. Steak falls in and Lag and Niche have to save him, drenching themselves. Fortunately they run into Connor, who takes them to the Yuusari Bee Hive. In his eagerness, Lag dashes in dressed in only underpants and shoes—Niche next to him—to greet everyone with great gusto. Spirits only dampened a little when he’s scold, for he is eager to take the test. The exam is to deliver a letter to western Yuusari, which cuts through gaichuu area, with no set time limit. Lag sets out against his opponent, McKay. They reach gaichuu territory and it is Lag who is able to defeat the gaichuu. However, both of their letters are ruined by the mud; McKay forges the letter and gets to the destination, but Lag is late. At this time the exam observer Zazie shows up and tells Lag to shoot McKay’s letter, revealing it is a fake—and Lag has won.
He’s happy until the moment Zazie mentions that Gauche is no longer a Bee. Conner knew, but he hadn’t had the heart to say anything because Gauche was Lag’s ideal Bee and what he aimed to be. Even after being told this, Lag still doesn’t want to believe it. Lag decides to go see Sylvette. After an awkward first meeting, they manage to talk. Sylvette reveals that her brother has spoken about Lag before, but when Lag asks where he is, she show him the letter of dismissal, and asks Lag to never come back. One the way back, Lag doesn’t say much, but he asks Niche what would happen if he ever forgot her. She says, resolutely, “I’ll lick you! And bite you! And push you over! And jump on you! And scratch you! And push you over.” She will never forget Lag, she says. One person is enough to remember. With this in his mind, Lag returns to Slyvette, because he wants to become the hope for Sylvette. He promises to find him, and shoots his Heart Bullet at Gauche’s old gun. With Gauche’s memories and a promise, both of them began crying. Lag receives Gauche’s gun from Sylvette, and he goes back to the Bee Hive to receive the official appointing as a Letter Bee. His dream is to deliver precious Hearts and be the best at it. His aim is what Gauche’s was—to be Head Bee.
Life as a Letter Bee begins for him. He stays at Sylvette’s place, avoiding her soup…and before his first mission, Aria Link tells him a bit about Gauche, and how the flickering of the man-made sun on the day of Sylvette’s (and Lag’s) birth made her legs useless, and Gauche to forget his mother. She is warning him of the sun, and his dream of being Head Bee—the closer you are to the man-made sun, the more dangerous it is.
His first delivery goes fairly well, though with everything going on, Lag has been shooting too many Heart Bullets. Worn out, he runs into Dr. Thunderland Jr. Nicknamed the Corpse Doctor. Thunderland has a love of dissecting. However, he is rather misunderstood. There is more than just collecting corpses and dissecting—this is for medical advances. Gauche’s memories (Lag shooting yet more Heart Bullets) reveal this, as well as how he was one of the few people who understood the Corpse Doctor. With this in mind, Thunderland asks Lag to sent letter to a town called Honey Waters—a town that is anti-government—to “the man who could not become Spirit.”
After Aria uses her Heart to revitalise Lag’s Heart, he sets off to Honey Waters with Connor. There he encounters a couple—Sara and Hunt—who claims to support the anti-government organisation, “Reverse.” Sara uses a black spirit amber to cure people. Lag sees this amber and thinks that it once belonged to Gauche. As it turns out, Gauche had passed through this area before, saving Sara and Hunt from a gaichuu (a thing to note was that he was approached by someone from Reverse, but he was turned down). To protect Hunt from the superstitious townspeople, Sara weaves a story about how they are anti-government, sent to help people, and that Hunt is the “man who could not become spirit.” They are believed until Lag and Conner show up. A gaichuu also later appears, attracted by letters a girl has hidden underground. The resulting battle is won with the help of Zazie showing up, and Sara and Hunt are thrown out. However, Conner takes them to see Dr. Thunderland, who may be able to help them.
Lag also heads back, but before he can do anything, he is stopped by a man. A man he knew once as Gauche, but claims to be another—Noir. He says that he doesn’t know Lag, and that he was never a Letter Bee, but a Marauder. If Letter Bees deliver, then Marauders steal. Niche is meanwhile stopped by Roda, forced to fight with her while Roda tells her she’s a failure of a dingo for not protecting Lag properly. Noir shoots Lag to prevent him from following them, and Lag has to return in order to give the news about Gauche. What he hates the most is that he has to tell Sylvette the news. When he goes back to her home, Sylvette has thrown celebration honouring Lag’s finding of Gauche. He breaks down and says that he didn’t, but she, also crying insists that he kept his promise and that he will one day get her brother’s heart back, and when he does they’ll have a bigger celebration.
During this, Niche has slipped away, believing that she isn’t fit to be Lag’s dingo anymore. She leaves behind the underpants because…as Sylvette puts it, “the pants are their bond.” Lag runs around searching for Niche, who has entered a bakery to borrow an oven to cook Steak. However, a street performer has seen Niche high up jumping from rooftops, and, emboldened by wine, tries to walk a tightrope, with disastrous results. Lag ends up grabbing him, and Niche returns (with pants), saving them both. Later, the owner of the bakery stores, who also runs a weapons shop, gives Lag a Letter Bullet. For it to work, a person must write a letter and place it into the bullet. It can only be shot at one person, and only works once. The trouble is in the letter writing; Lag does not know what to say. He tries to take inspiration from others during his deliveries, but he still isn’t able to say what he wants to.
Troubles or not, there is news that Noir’s trail was at the Northern Borders. Lag and Niche set off, reaching a town called Blue Notes Blue. Before they reach the town, they encounter what seem to be a giant gaichuu, unshattered but gaping with a hole in it. Lag sees empty cartridges which he knows are Noir/Gauche’s, and he shoots them to gain a glimpse into Gauche’s memories. He still doesn’t know how Gauche lost his heart, but he knows that the fact the girl following Noir is called “Roda” means that Gauche hasn’t lost his Heart entirely. Niche began leading the way, because she was born in Blue Notes Blue…about 200 years ago. There were two children of Maka, Niche and her sister. The townspeople were afraid and threw them into the river. Niche’s sister stayed in the cave which is the abode of Make, but Niche floating down the river, far away.
And Niche’s sister is angry, for what “humans” have done to her. And then she says something surprising—that Lag does not have the scent of a human. She asks if he is “something that has taken form of a human.” However, before he can say or even think much about this, she attacks. Niche protects him, even though her sister calls her a shrimp (Niche’s sister appears to be fully grown and is…naked. Of which Lag has long ago noticed and asked her to put pants on and cover her chest. Much to his relief she obliges to this). There is a brief interruption from the townspeople, who consider Maka to be a sort of deity. Niche’s sister then relates the story of Celica, the woman whom Maka shed a tear for so that she could give birth—to twins.
She then attacks again, Niche being the only one who can truly defend the attacks. Out of desperation, right as Niche suffers debilitating wounds, Lag shoots a heart bullet at her sister, showing his memories of Niche. She almost stops, but then calls humans impudent and foolish for thinking they could share a bond with Maka. “Are there any living beings that aren’t foolish?” Lag asks of her, accidentally revealing the spirit amber in his left eye. She again notes that he isn’t human, but decides to end Niche. Lag rushes up to hear, shooting one more Heart Bullet, saying that Niche is Niche, and that she is his precious friend. It is the memory of him saying good-bye to Niche that makes her sister stop. She remembers how her sister disappeared, and how she was “alone” for the first time. The sudden burst of emotion was what made her mature. However, she waited for her sister to return, someday. Lag, surprisingly, says that she was foolish to wait, claiming that no humans were that foolish. “Do you mean that I myself am the foolish one…or…do you mean that I too was a child borne of a foolish human?” Niche’s sister asks him of this.
At least she isn’t trying to kill Niche or Lag anymore. She then tells Lag about the mysterious creatures frozen in ice all throughout the cave. Maka had them frozen before they became corrupted—they are spirit insects, such as the tiny one in Lag’s eye. Gaichuu are spirit insects which once had Hearts but now lost them, and so they seek to replace their Hearts. However, if the spirit insects become amber, their energy is stored away and they most likely can’t become gaichuu. The cave is Maka’s “spirit garden,” assumedly a safekeeping to keep the insects from becoming gaichuu, but there’s the problem of Noir. Noir had broken out one of the larvae and taken it with him. Lag has his information, but has to leave Niche behind so that she can recover. Niche’s sister does say that Lag has delivered a letter to her—Niche, her sister, whom she had lost. Lag leaves a happier person…though Maka calls him “light.” It seems that Lag may not be as “human” as he appears. Little else is said at the moment; all Niche’s sister says of him at the end of this arc is that he is someone who delivers letters—“hearts.”
Meanwhile, Marauders are still stealing letters. Lag finds out that Noir has stolen from Zaji. On their way to see Conner, Zaji tells him how he saw Noir with the gaichuu he took from the cave. He also asks if Lag has finished his letter, meant for the Letter Bullet. Lag says that he says, though he isn’t very confident in it. He also mentions how he doesn’t know much about the government, how Amberground works. They reach Lamento Town, where Conner is. Conner is distracted by a girl and her cookies, utterly smitten. Lag, however, notices Roda hanging around, handing over bags of letters, and he then knows the Abbey of the town is Reverse’s base. He infiltrates it…by dressing as a girl. The disguise works well (almost too well. Zaji is amazed) and get him in as “Lara”. He sees Roda speaking to the people of the Abbey, talking about “human sacrifices” that will save people. It’s unfortunate that Roda catches him later. Lag is not unprepared, though. It’s a tough fight, without Niche supporting him. It turns using letters and people, the Abbey people are being used as food for the huge gaichuu that Noir took from Maka’s cave.
Lag races out—only to run into Noir/Gauche. He asks what Reserve is going, and Noir replies that they are extinguishing the “light” in order to bring the “true darkness”. He says he will kill those that stand in his way. Lag tries to use the Letter Bullet, but Roda appears and knocks it out of his hands. Noir and Lag both shoot at the same time; their heart bullets collide and cancel each other out. Lag shoots again, this time hitting Noir and hoping that he remembers. But Noir says that their friendship is over and that he is Noir, not Gauche. Zaji arrives to grab Lag (and to give him some…ahem, more appropriate clothing for fighting), revealing that he’s found Lag’s Letter Bullet. He covers for Lag so that he can shoot. At the last possible moment, Roda blocks him, saying that Noir is necessary to save the world. Before Lag can reply, Conner shows up, saying how the gaichuu has eaten the Heart of the girl that he has loved.
It triggers something in Lag. He demands of Noir how any of this could save the world, and says he will “never forgive” him. Noir says it doesn’t matter, and shoots. But so does Lag—the energy from his spirit amber rises, and there is a “light” that dissolves’ Noir’s bullet. The radiance around Lag is compared to the man-made sun, and Lag says he is going to wipe out “Noir.” The Letter Bullet hits its target, and Noir falls.
The gaichuu—Cabernet—is attracted to all the Heart that Lag has shot, distracting everyone. Lag is shaky because he has shot too much Heart, and Zaji is tired as well from fighting Noir. All of them work to bring the Cabernet down. Lag tries to save Roda from falling, but she doesn’t want his help—she is still scheming. The Cabernet snatches up him and Noir. As he attempts to find the weak point, Noir/Gauche tells him it is under the wings. They shoot at the same time, and the Cabernet drops them—as well as a wing.
While they bring Gauche back to Yuusari, Zaji asks Lag what it wrote in that letter. It’s just three simple words: I miss you. But Lag believes he has gotten through, and that he has kept his promise of bringing Gauche back to Sylvette. Things aren’t perfect; Gauche is unconscious and Lag has five deliveries to make. Even though Lag is relieves that Niche recovers in time to help time, and that they are back together, there are other unsettling things—the arrival of inspectors Garrard and Hazel (former Bee and Dingo). After a tuss between Hazel and Niche, Garrard makes several announcements, one of is that Lag is assigned to the Cold Letter Division, which is full of old letters that have piled up. Lag, being Lag, carries on the best he can even after Garrard says his dream to become Head Bee is foolish as well as childish.
The only thing that stops him is a cold. Aria takes his place, Niche reluctantly following her as a Dingo only because Lag insisted. Lag finds himself in the care of Thunderland Jr., in the same room as Gauche. They briefly talk, on the day the man-made sun flickered, causing people to lose parts of their hearts…as well as the crashing of the government airship. Before he can ask any more questions, Lag appears to get worse.
Actually, things are fuzzy, and there is more proof that Lag doesn’t seem to be an ordinary human. While unconscious, his Heart goes out of control and there’s a rush of memories…but not his own memories. After this, he seems to quiet down, and he wakes up to say that he has had a long dream of an unfamiliar landscape from a long time ago. That’s all he can say at the moment, because there’s a different matter—Gauche.
He’s awake, and he recognises Dr. Thunderland, as well as Sylvette. And he also acknowledges Lag, who immediately forgets he’s ever been ill as he leaps onto Gauche. For a while, there is nothing wrong at all, as he sits with Sylvette and Gauche. They are allowed to return home for a while. Lag still cautiously watches Gauche, to make sure he’s truly back. It seems that he is—the awful soup that Sylvette makes, he enjoys as he once did. He appears to remember things, and his personality is different from Noir’s. This is further solidified when Lag has to make a quick delivery, only to have been caught in the dilemma of letting go of his bag to save himself, or to fall with his bag. He makes the right choice of saving his bag because it is the most important thing. Gauche, who has followed him, confirms this and once Lag is awake he tells him that he made the right choice of protecting the bag and that he is truly a Letter Bee. Gauche carries him home (repaying the favour that Lag did for him, years back), and Lag casually mentions that he felt all of Gauche’s Heart pass through him.
There’s isn’t must to be suspicious about, but as he talks animatedly, his mind is still running, and he realises that he doesn’t know what has happened to Gauche when he went to the Capital. His joy, suddenly shattered. Late that night he confronts Gauche—or rather, Noir—and confirms it. Noir saw Gauche’s memories and pretended that he was Gauche, even wanting to be Gauche because there were people who cared about him. Noir goes on to explain his motives—how there were people he needed to protected. If Lag has seen his Heart, then he ought to have understood. That was Noir’s reasoning. He says that he hates the man-made sun, but also fears it. There is a resolution inside of him to destroy the artificial light, and starts to threaten Lag if he doesn’t let him pass.
But Lag says he doesn’t understand, nor does he care. All he is feeling is missing Gauche, and wanting them and Sylvette to live together. Noir attempts to kind, to tell Lag to lie to Sylvette, but this cause Lag to lash out, saying that was something Gauche would say, but Noir is not Gauche, and that he lies and pretends to be kind. An emergency bell interrupts him, but before Noir leaves, he says, “Even though my memories are borrowed from Gauche, my feelings toward you and Sylvette were my true heart.” As he leaves with Roda, Lag is grieved, but he calls out for both Gauche and Noir.
It is with a heavy heart that Lag answers the emergency bell, lying to Sylvette that her brother had to leave early. At Yuusair, all the Bees are sent out to bring down the Cabernet. Lag gives them the news about Gauche, but he has a question—what happened at the Capital? Garrard kicks him down and says if the Cabernet is defeated, he will tell him what he knows.
With his mind occupied, trying to figure out what is real and what isn’t about Noir, Lag has to set off to a seemingly impossible mission.
Point in Canon: Chapter 46, after Noir leaves
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: N/A
Character Personality:
Perhaps Lag Seeing is best summed up in the words of one his friends: “I think your specialty is kindness…you’re extremely good at taking on the feelings of other people. You’re able to feel the heart contained in everything, as if it was your own.” It goes beyond a sympathetic kindness—it’s deep-set empathy that stems from childhood events. For a boy who is twelve years of age, Lag cries a lot; usually not for himself, but for the empathy he feels towards others, be it friends or complete strangers. It seems as if his heart is big enough to contain himself and many others, to help them and show concern for them.
Lag’s kindness is combined with an eagerness to help. Striving to do the best he could at his job, as well as trying to uphold his promise to Sylvette—to bring back her brother. While he does make impulsive decisions at times that could be considered reckless (When he first arrived at the Bee Hive in Yuusari, he ran in to greet everyone, heedless of the fact he was only dressed in underpants, gloves, and shoes), his intentions are usually in the right place…just maybe not with the right timing. Some could probably call him naïve, but he’s simply honest with his feelings toward people and situations, which is often why he cries. Maybe he’s a little too honest because there isn’t much that he hides when it comes to his emotions. They literally overflow, especially during the moments when he shoots heart bullets. Lag wants to bring out the best in people, to defend their good points. More often then not he runs himself down in his attempts to help.
Sometimes, it’s hard to tell in a situation who’s more distraught—Lag, or the person Lag is trying to help. There was the first meeting he had with Conner—Lag was so relieved that Conner, a complete stranger, was all right that he began bawling. He cried while talking to Sylvette (who claims in the midst of shedding tears that she has met someone who was a bigger crybaby than she was), promising her to find Gauche. The sense of empathy is so strong in him that it leaves little room inside him to cry for himself…though it does happen from time to time. He has shed tears when he has felt sorry for himself, for letting others down. More often than not he isn’t thinking about himself, and that’s where his weak point is. It’s a question of just how much does Lag actually understand himself? He hardly is concerned with himself. What people see of him are from the bullets that he shoots, the fragments of his heart. Lag may not talk much about himself, but others probably understand him better than he does himself because of how open he is with his heart.
What was it that made him the person he is? The goal to become the best, to be like Gauche Suede. From the time Gauche brought him to Cambel Litus, he had aimed for that. Little things that Gauche had said about being a Bee (the duties, the burdens, the importance of keeping letters safe, he remembered them all), he would remember for the long years while growing up. Even after he was told the devastating news about Gauche, his goals didn’t change. Rather, this desire, this sort of determination is what motivates him in finding Gauche and bringing him back. Even when he found Gauche—calling himself Noir—it was just a milestone in getting Gauche back. Not just for himself, but also for Sylvette and others who were waiting for Gauche to come back. Gauche—the hero he believed in. The impression that was forever marked on him when he was only seven. The inspiration he looked up to. Accepting the news that Gauche was no longer a Bee was difficult, but he used that as another step to go forward.
“I miss you.” Lag’s feelings were in that short sentence. Such a heartfelt plea, plaintive and simple. If he could bring him back, so many things would be made better. Again and again, he got a little closer, and then he would hit another obstacle. There was a point when he came so close to thinking that Gauche was back, only find it was all a ruse. Again and again, his hopes were dashed, but somehow he finds the hope to continue his quest. Perhaps it is this cycle of hope and disappointment that allows for Lag to help others. It was a single goal that inspires him, and then in turn he can continue to inspire others.
“Lag, you’re always thinking of someone…and shedding tears for someone.” A statement could not ring truer. Lag lives for others and is the hope for others, even gaining the name the “child of light.” It’s not out of some claim to be the best out there, but the want to do his best. It’s not the desire to be famous, but to live true to his feelings. It’s not the desire to gain admirers, but to help people. It’s not selfishness, but selflessness. Lag Seeing—the one who sees into people’s hearts and tries to understand them to the best of capabilities. He might be younger than most and not the subtlest of people, but he has inside him a kindness that has no bounds.
All because of that fateful day a Letter Bee picked him up to be delivered.
